Research Requests

The Idaho Military Historical Society answers numerous requests by patrons for various types of information related to Idaho's military history every day.  If you are not able to visit the library and archives to conduct your own research, our staff may be able to assist you.

A photocopier is available; photocopies cost 20¢ per page.  If you are not able to make the copies yourself, our staff will make them for you on a first come first served basis for a cost of 50¢ per page.  This includes off-site queries received via telephone, e-mail, fax, or U.S. Postal Service.  Any requests requiring international postage will be charged the applicable postage for that country based on the US Postal Services webpage.

Requests that can be answered in less than 30 minutes will be charged for photocopies at 50¢ per page for all staff-produced copies (letter or legal) and postage.  Requests that take an additional 60 minutes to answer will be charged a $15.00 research fee, in addition to photocopying charges and postage.  Requests that require more than 90 minutes of research time by staff cannot be answered.  $5.00 minimum copying charge for off-site queries.  Upon request, staff can provide a list of local researchers experienced in either historical or genealogical research who can be hired to assist with longer research projects.  Any requests requiring international postage will be charged the postage rates posted on the United States Postal Services webpage. http://ircalc.usps.gov/

We  reserve the right to restrict copying of material which may be damaged by the photocopying process or carries donor-imposed restrictions. The user is responsible for copyright compliance.

"I  just wanted to thank you for your museum's website.  My son is a young Army Aviator.  His great-uncle was also an Army Aviator and I wanted to find some information to share with my young lieutenant.   I was delighted to find your website"   R.B.

"I just ran across your great web site.  I just want to tell you that it brought back memories, I was at Gowen fld in Feb 1943, I came from B17 transition school in Sebring FL.  Arrived with a brand new crew and had some hair raising experiences before going on to Rapid City, after spending about 6-8 weeks at Gowen." J.H.

"Your museum is just great and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the work you and the entire staff have done.  My father was a Navy Corpsman in Vietnam and was killed on a medevac mission 2 months before I was born.  I've done a lot of research to find out who he was and about our military, so you can imagine how I enjoy visiting the museum." S.H.

"This is a resource we need to promote and protect."  C.J.

"Hope to visit sometime if I ever get to Idaho. Thanks for your good work."  Dave

"From an old Boise Boy [who] did air time in the backseat of the Idaho ANG F-89Bs, ...the historical pictures of Gowen Field are b
eing appreciated." D.H.

"Thanks again for all that you have done and are doing to keep this time in history alive and interesting to those of us who have heard so much about this great era." S.R.B.

"Your info got me the answer I was looking for.  Thanks again for all your help!"  S.B.

"When I started this search several years ago I didn't dream I'd learn as much as I have.  And the most important things I have discovered have been because of your help.  Thanks again."  AN

"Thanks again for taking an interest in our project.  It really does create an exciting dimension to it! - B.D/Howard Springs

"Your website is great!" - M.VH
