Complete with a Yarborough Knife! Manufactured by Chris Reeve Knives in Boise, Idaho, this knife was donated on 11 November 2003, by Master Sgt. Joe Frost (Ret). In 2002, the US Army Special Operations Command authorized a distinct knife for the Special Forces. It was named the Yarborough, in honor of one of the fathers of the Special Forces. Special Forces troops participating in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom have carried their Boise-made Chris Reeve knives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We have photos from WWII Era Gowen
Field and artifacts from that time. To name but a few, a
bath towel, matchbooks and sweetheart pillow. We also have a
pair of boots recovered from the attic of a WWII barracks. The
large image is a short history of Gowen
Field. This exhibit is in the process of being expanded
but is open for viewing.
A recent edition to the section is an exhibit on Paul Gowen, the individual Gowen Field was named for. To read his story, see our 3rd Quarter 2003 newsletter Pass In Review, on our Newsletter page.
The families of two of Idaho's Adjutants General have donated
memorabilia from their service, General Patch and General McConnel.
General Patch saw action in WWI and also served as the Adjutant

General McConnel was the Adjutant General from
1925-1946. To read his story, see our 3rd Quarter 2002 newsletter Pass

This is just a portion of our collection. We have flight suits, headgear, and numerous photos which cover a part of the history of the Idaho Air National Guard. The exhibit also includes tools and gear vital to aviators. A new exhibit case now highlights the Air Force/Guard's involvement in the Global War on Terror.
This is also where we have the Dan Davis collection. Dan was a POW in Germany in WWII. You can read his story in our 1st Quarter 1999 newsletter Pass In Review on our Newsletter page.

received a donation from Parnassus Books of over 300 military history books and
documents. If you are researching something on military history, our library is worth a visit.
We plan to add a list of some of the titles in our library to the webpage in the near future.

The conference room is available for small groups to hold meetings during
business hours. Some members of the National Guard have honored us by
holding their award and promotion ceremonies in this room.
On November 11,
2001, we unveiled a display of WWII Soldier Art featuring the
work of John & Nick Collias who worked at Gowen Field during WWII.
Much of their art work appeared in the Gowen Beacon, Gowen Field's newspaper. Although not currently on exhibit, some of the Beacon's are viewable by special appointment.
A visit to the Museum would not be complete without a visit to our gift shop! Photos of many of the items we have available are pictured on our Gift Shop page which you can go to from the bottom of this page.
