OUR ENDOWMENT

The Society is growing rapidly but to sustain its growth and continue to meets its goals, it will be necessary to increase and stabilize a strong financial base.  With your help, we can expand our displays and collections, our library, our tours and lecture series and be open seven days a week.

Our Vision:  To provide endowment and capital funds to create a financial base which will ensure the preservation of Idaho's military heritage for future generations.

Our Goal:  An endowment of $500,000.
Where Are We At Now?  Our current endowment balance is $40,350.00.

This endowment will allow us to operate the Museum with one full-time staff member and provide adequate funds for developing our displays, library materials and outreach programs throughout the state.

The endowment and capital funds campaign is your opportunity to assist in maintaining the mission of the Idaho Military History Museum which has been established for the purpose of "preservation, display and interpretation of military history and artifacts that have a geographical, cultural, or historical tie to the people and state of Idaho."

How Can You Help?

On June 30, 1993, the IRS granted the IMHS a temporary 501(c)(3), Non-Profit, tax-exempt status. and on May 25, 1999, thanks in part to the efforts of Mr. Phil Reberger and then Senator Kempthorne’s office, the IRS granted the IMHS permanent 501(c)(3) status.

This means that donations to the endowment are tax deductible.

Donations can be made to the endowment:

      In memorial to an individual

As part of your estate planning
As part of your charitable contributions for tax purposes.  Download Endowment Form

You can also donate on line with a credit card through our partner Networkforgood.org.  They will notify us of your donation.  All information they provide to us is confidential; we do not sell or provide any information to other groups or organizations.

Do We Have Support For This?  Yes we do!  We have received letters of endorsement from several prominent citizens of the state of Idaho as well as members of Idaho's congressional delegation.

These letters in their entirety are available for viewing at the Museum, here are some excerpts:

"The establishment of the Idaho Military Historical Society and the resulting Idaho Military Museum is a wonderful contribution to the State of Idaho and its citizens.  There can never be replacement for those who sacrificed their lives, careers, and families in this nation's call to war, but we can and should make every effort to remember and honor those who have been asked to carry the burdens required to maintain our countries freedoms and opportunities.

The nation's past and our state's participation in the struggles that have made America great can easily be forgotten, unless we encourage and support programs and projects such as the Idaho Military Historical Society.  Focusing on the unique role played by Idaho's citizens and resources in defending and sustaining our national pride and freedom, this project holds particular significance for our state.

Please know that I am privileged to share your vision of the establishment of an endowment fund to ensure the continued dedication of the Idaho Military Historical Society to preserve our heritage.  To all who might read this letter, I encourage you to support this endeavor seeking to preserve the Idaho Military heritage for generations to come. "

                        - Michael D. Crapo, Senator, July 2002

"As a U.S. Senator, while serving on the Armed Services Committee and chairing the Personnel Sub-Committee, my deep respect and appreciation grew for the men and women who proudly wear the uniform of the United States Armed Forces.  Now, as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Idaho National Guard, I continue to see, firsthand, the commitment and sacrifice of our soldiers as they serve our country.

History records their bravery and their sacrifices and you can be part of preserving that history at the Idaho Military History Museum.  Located at Gowen Field, the museum offers a trip back in time and gives historical insight into our military past.  Visitors see the relics of our military heritage and learn about the outstanding Idahoans who have served this country through military service.  The experience is sure to touch the heart and inspire courage and patriotism in people of all ages.

I strongly encourage your support of the Idaho Military History Museum by contributing to the endowment fund.   Your generosity will make it possible to preserve and properly display Idaho's military heritage while ensuring that the sacrifices of those Idahoans who have served so faithfully are never forgotten."

              - Dirk Kempthorne, Governor, May 2002

"As a nation, we too soon forget the sacrifices made by veterans to preserve our freedoms and protect our way of life...The Idaho Military History Museum located at Gowen Field helps ensure that we do not forget the men and women who faithfully served their country in the armed forces.

The Idaho Military Historical Society has established an endowment fund to ensure the future funding of the Military History Museum.  I hope that you will consider joining the Military Historical Society and contributing to the endowment fund.  The fund will ensure that future generations of Idahoans will be reminded of the sacrifices of those who went before them.  This reminder may help bring about their realization of what a precious gift their freedom is as well as the tremendous price paid in securing it."

              - Alan G. Lance, Attorney General, May 2002

"I was very pleased to learn that the Idaho Military Historical Society plans to renew its endowment fund efforts to insure the future of the Society and its Military History Museum.  Since opening in 1995, the museum has played a key role in preserving an important part of our state's history.  The endowment fund will allow that role to continue.

Because I have the privilege of working with Idaho's veterans on a daily basis, I see firsthand the sacrifices they made to protect the freedoms we enjoy.  Only a few of us have that opportunity, however, and it is important that we all remember the price they paid.  The museum is an excellent teaching tool for the youth of today and future generations.

I encourage you to support the Idaho Military Historical Society's endowment program.  Your contribution will play an important part in remembering the past as we prepare for the future."

          - Richard W. Jones, Administrator, Division of Veterans Services, May 2002

"I want to acknowledge the remarkable job you have done in the last seven years in establishing the Society and operating all of its varied activities.  The Idaho Military History Museum, along with its Reference Library, and the many educational programs have touched Idahoans, young and old.  It reminds them of Idaho's colorful military history and of the men and women from Idaho who served proudly in the armed forces of the Unites States.

I realize that to maintain and operate the aggressive programs and facilities of the Society, we must maintain an adequate, permanent, and consistent financial base.  In this respect, I strongly support your memorial and endowment program.  I encourage all Idahoans to also support the Society by giving generously through the Endowment Program that you have established.

The generous financial gifts made to the endowment will ensure that future generations will understand the great Military Heritage of Idaho and remember those Idahoans who served their country so honorably and the sacrifices they made."

             - Major General, John F. Kane, Commanding General, March 2002

"I was very pleased to learn that the Idaho Military Historical Society plans to establish an endowment fund to ensure the future of the Society and its Military History Museum...To me, the museum is not about glorifying war.  It is about teaching the youth of today, and future generations, what took place, where, and why it happened.

I encourage you to support the Idaho Military Historical Society's endowment program.  Your contribution  will play an important part in remembering the past as we prepare for the future.

                 - Gary Bermeosolo, Administrator,  (Retired) Division of Veterans Services, February 1998

"Over the course of our nation's history, active-duty soldiers and honored veterans have proudly defended and preserved the very freedom we enjoy today.  The Idaho Military History Museum at Gowen Field serves as a physical reminder of the sacrifices these men and women have made on our behalf.

On behalf of the great state of Idaho, I would like to invite you to support the Military Historical Society by contributing to its endowment fund.  The fund will ensure that future generations of Idahoans will be able to learn about our state and nation's history, and understand the role the armed forces played in securing the integrity of the United States. "

                  - Philip E. Batt,  (Retired) Governor, January 1998

"I was extremely pleased to hear of the efforts of the Idaho Military Historical Society to preserve our military heritage and memorialize the men and women of Idaho who have sacrificed so much in defense of our nation.  Your military history museum will be a great benefit to the people of Idaho and future generations.  It is imperative that we educate our young people on the history of our nation and state, and the sacrifices and commitments our citizens have made to protect the American way of life."

                          - Congressman Helen Chenoweth, December 1997
